ACCELERATE was developed as a partnership between the British Council and the Australia Council for the Arts in 2009. Over the years, ACCELERATE has also been supported by Arts NT, Create NSW, Arts Queensland, Creative Victoria, and Department of Culture and the Arts WA with additional support from private partners including British Airways, BT Global Services, SBS NITV and Virgin Atlantic.

The most recent round of ACCELERATE, held in 2016, was presented by the British Council and the Australia Council for the Arts in association with Arts NSW, Arts Queensland, Creative Victoria, and the Department of Culture and the Arts WA, with additional support from SBS NITV.

The ACCELERATE artwork was developed by 2014 ACCELERATE participant Lucy Simpson of Gaawaa Miyay Designs; and the animation was by Wren & Rabbit Productions.
