British Council Australia is proud to support First Trimester, one of the boldest international works at this year's Melbourne Fringe Festival. UK-based performance artist Krishna Istha continues their worldwide search for the perfect sperm donor through intimate, live on-stage interviews that blend heart-to-heart conversation with compelling performance art.

Having already captivated audiences in London, Dublin, Copenhagen and Auckland, Krishna and their partner Logan bring their deeply personal journey to Melbourne as part of their global artistic quest to start a family. Each ten-minute interview explores the profound questions around modern family-making, creating meaningful dialogue about trans reproductive healthcare in an innovative, creative format.

First Trimester forms part of Krishna's trilogy, the M:otherhood Project. The British Council supported an open-studio development session of Second Trimester, which is also part of this trilogy, at Liveworks Festival in 2024. The work exemplifies our commitment to supporting bold, internationally significant arts that build bridges between communities.

First Trimester runs as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival's 'Action Heroes Assemble' programme from 30 September – 19 October. Prospective participants can still sign up via the  Melbourne Fringe website.
