ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT/TEAM 

The Director in Australia is developing networks in cultural, civil society, politics and business to understand and articulate the landscape of contemporary Australia and the changing nature of the historically close UK-Australia relationship. The British Council has a strong profile in Australia’s cultural sector and a niche Higher Education position in science and innovation, in particular the Intersect programme to develop cultural diversity in the leadership of the arts and creative economy, and the FameLab science communications competition. 

The Sydney based Australian office includes a Country Director, Executive Assistant, Communications Manager, Arts and Programme Manager, Exams Business Manager, two Examinations Services Officers and an Accountant. In April three new appointments will join to deliver a UK Australia season of culture in 2021/22. There are currently three British Council staff members in Australia working outside the Sydney office, reporting directly to managers in Asia and the UK.

As the Executive Assistant, you will need to provide administrative and governance support to County Director (Australia) to ensure he/she can fulfil his/her role successfully.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

  • Proven track record working with internal customers.
  • At least 2 -3 years as an Administrative Officer within a multinational organization.
  • University Degree or equivalent in Relevant Discipline (preferably with Administration, Finance, Accounting or General Management background)
